The best time to visit Greater Palm Springs

With clear blue skies and balmy evenings, scenic deserts and canyons, and diverse, vibrant communities, it’s hard to resist the lure of Greater Palm Springs.

This area of Southern California has been called the state’s “sweet spot,” a collection of resort communities that promises respite and rejuvenation. In the cities of Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, La Quinta, and Palm Springs, which make up Greater Palm Springs, there’s something for everyone. The area, too, lies just two hours east of Los Angeles.

Whether you prefer an outdoor adventure, a luxury escape, an immersion in the area’s retro-chic Mid-Century Modern vibe, or being a part of some of the world’s most celebrated cultural events, Greater Palm Springs offers the best of what you want all year round.

Here’s what to expect at any given season:

Whether you prefer the saltwater pool of a luxury resort, or the sparkling waters of the pool/spa in a private vacation rental that comes with personalized services, you’ll find a pool that’s exactly to your liking.

Hop onto the rotating Palm Springs Aerial Tramway for a 10-minute, 2.5-mile ride up Mt. Saint Jacinto State Park. On the way up, enjoy spectacular views of the Cliffs of Chino Canyon.

Watch the tennis action at the BNP Paribas Open while relishing what Bloomberg calls “the alluring atmosphere” of the place.

Then there’s Modernism Week in February. The 11-day festivity honoring everything Mid-Century Modern includes walking and bus tours, lectures and films, and visits to some of the design style’s most definitive structures.

SPRING in Greater Palm Springs

Two of Greater Palm Springs’s signature events for spring have been rescheduled for 2021. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has been moved to April 9 – 11, 2021 for the first weekend and April 16 – 18, 2021 for the second weekend. All 2020 passes will be honored.

California’s largest country music gathering, the family-friendly Stagecoach Country Music Festival, will also resume in 2021. It has been scheduled for April 23 – 25, 2021, a week after Coachella.
